what is yoga about1

What is YOGA all about – our view on YOGA

"seek the sun within you … become one with your breath …
you are eternal life … you are the universe
the larger body of who you are is the solar system
that is why it is called hatha yoga"
(sanskrit      ha ... sun     tha ... moon)

The ancient tradition of YOGA is all about connecting body, mind and soul (the Sanskrit word yug means "to unite") with the goal to experience oneness … an experience where the body is relaxed, the mind is calm and the shattering of the ego is almost silent. It goes along with the realization, that we are a part of Nature, that we are one with the Universe, that all the creation power is right inside of us. When our body, mind and soul are connected, we are able to listen to our inner voice and are so guided to live our true Potential and experience Joy, Happiness and pure Love.

YOGA is about Life itself and it shows us how to live with Life, means how to live in union with our Inner Self and Mother Nature.

Practicing YOGA in the ancient tradition means not only the physical practice on the mat yet a whole system, which combines body movement and postures asanas, breathing techniques pranayama,

meditation, positive thinking, a vegetarian/vegan nutrition and a joy- and peaceful sustainable way of living.

Living YOGA in its wholeness in implementing it in your everyday life cleanses your whole system, means your body and mind and opens up your heart-thought, so that you can realize the true essence of Life and Nature.

Traditional Yoga Styles

As we teach Yoga in its traditional way, we want to give you a very short overview here of the styles we are practicing and teaching with further recommended readings … if you are interested in it … otherwise just join us in our course program to experience for yourself and of course get all theoretical background and knowledge combined with your guided practical experience.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha (sanskrit) means “sun and moon” and refers to a balanced energy level of female and masculine in our system. Therefore it is the aim and focus of this traditional style of YOGA to balance body and mind, which can be done with smooth, stretching holding postures and tranquil as well as rhythmic breath work.

We recommend you to read the following classical works regarding Hatha Yoga:

  • Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • Gheranda Samhita
  • Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha by Swami Satyananda Saraswati

If you are interested in the Philosophy of traditional Hatha Yoga read the classical work of  Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra.

Sivananda Yoga

A traditional form of Hatha YOGA, going back to Swami Sivananda and his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda.

YOGA is seen as an holistic approach to Life with giving importance to spread the message of World Peace so that the ancient yogic knowledge is thought for health, peace, unity in diversity and self-realization.

The teaching concepts and methods are summarized as the 5 points of YOGA

  • Asanas
  • Pranayamas
  • Meditation
  • Ayurveda and Yogic Nutrition
  • Positive Thinking

A Yoga practice class looks like this:

  • Chanting in the beginning and end of the class
  • Short meditation
  • Pranayama in the beginning or end of the class
  • The Asana Practice follows a sequence to activate the 7 main chakras in a proper way
  • Sun Salutation
  • 12 basic asanas and variations as well as adjustments for beginner, intermediate and advanced
  • (the postures are mostly hold for min. 30 sec. to max. 3 minutes to assure the positive effects of each asana)
  • Savasana and visualization

Check out the many books, written by Swami Sivananda, Swami Vishnudevananda and the todays Swamis and Teachers around the world.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga, goes back to K. Pattabhi Jois and refers to the 8 limbs of Yoga. (sanskrit ashta: “eight”, anga: “limb”)

The practice contains of fast-paced, dynamic series of sequential asanas. Flowing sequences of movements vinyasa connect each asana with the next.

Core concept is the three places of attention or action:

  • Pranayama (breathing techniques)
  • Asana (body postures)
  • Drishti (looking focus place)

A class opens usually with the Sanskrit invocation to Patanjali. And closes with the mangala mantra.

We suggest you to read the classical work of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois:  Yoga Mala. The teachings of Ashtanga Yoga

Iyengar Yoga

Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar is a traditional form of YOGA with the focus on detail, precision and alignment in each asana. Its unique concept and teaching method is the usage of blocks, belts and pillows to allow the proper adjustment, safety and full relaxation.

Growing up in a mountain village near the holy city of Rishikesh, India, I got access to the ancient Yoga tradition from a very young age on. Starting with living in Jai Ram Ashram for 6 months where I got certificated in traditional Hatha Yoga. Motivated and inspired to learn more I attended a 200 hours Teacher Training for multistyle Yoga certificated from Yoga Alliance.

Further I was blessed to get trained in my everyday practice from Ravi Ji in Hatha Yoga and Pravin Nair in Iyengar style for several years.

Finally I just finished my study at Uttarakhand Open University in MA Yoga (Master of Yoga).

Convinced that YOGA is for Everyone it is my vision to spread the knowledge, wisdom and methods of the traditional Yoga styles and make it accessible and exciting to learn for people worldwide.

Whether you are just starting your yoga practice or you are an experienced student, I can assure you that this journey of Yoga learning will be fun and very rewarding for your body mind and spirit!

With an holistic approach you will learn more than you ever thought possible about your own body and mind as well as the possibilities of your practice.

I found Yoga while I was studying Ethnology and it immediately ‘got’ me, so that I not only started to practice mostly traditional Hatha Yoga and Sivananda Yoga regularly, yet also focused on its ancient wisdom and concepts in a scientific and theoretical way within my study.

After studying I attained a 200 hours Teacher Training focusing on traditional Hatha Yoga and Sivananda Yoga in an Eco Ashram in the South of India. Since that I am teaching in India, Thailand and Italy and deepening my knowledge, understanding and practice in joining workshops, trainings and individual coaching classes.

Studying Ethnology,  Yoga and Theravada Buddhism, travelling in Asia for many years, living mostly within beautiful local communities, as well as exploring and expressing my creativity with drawing and painting

has brought me close to Mother Nature and my Inner Self and has let me realize that a Nature aligned life is the only way for a happy, fulfilled and responsible way of living.

I believe and know that in teaching YOGA you can spread and raise the awareness towards a healthy, joyful and peaceful living with each other.

That is why I created Soulcreation.YOGA. and Ethno School … to raise the awareness of the importance and beauty of a sustainable, peaceful and joyous life and to support others going the way towards it.

Yogi Simon

  • Yogic Philosophy and Science
  • Ayurveda and Yogic Diet

Since childhood, my personal interest was to know the truth about “The Universe”, "The supreme power” and Nature itself. I had a constant whole hearted desire to study thoroughly the ancient Indian Scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas and many other holy writings, as scriptures provide us knowledge.

On 10th August 1988, I had first arrived in Rishikesh for spiritual study. At that time I was working in a multinational company as an assistant manager in Delhi with a very attractive salary package.

My intention was to complete the spiritual study which was only for one year and then return to Delhi to rejoin my profession. After one year I could not go back and it has been now over 30 years since I left. And I’m still in Rishikesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas, practicing, experiencing, teaching & still learning.

I became a Yogi through living and studying under the accordance of Yoga. I lived a traditional yogic way of life for 12 years with my spiritual Masters in different parts of the Himalayan range. Under the love and kind guidance of my Gurus I learned many types and styles of Yoga, Yoga Science and Therapy, Meditation, and Ayurvedic Science and Medicine.

As you know, Yoga is a very vast field. Many Sciences are hidden in it. I tried to get the maximum knowledge I could gain from my Gurus and Masters. Then I came back to Rishikesh and taught Indian scriptures to everyone from foreigners to villagers in various Ashrams.

I had many Spiritual Gurus and Masters; all of them loved me and enjoyed seeing my deep interest in spiritual things. But most of the time I have spent with “THE VISHVA GURU, YOGSAMRAT, MAHAMANDLESHWAR MUNISHANANDJI”, who was the founder of International Yoga & Meditation Institute at Rishikesh, and lived for 104 years.

Presently, my goal is to spread the real authentic knowledge of Yoga throughout the world.

In these modern times Yoga and Meditation are typically marketed for fitness, health and stress reduction.

Yet it would have a more profound effect if we all would understand:

Yoga is a practice into Bliss and Eternal Peace.

I want to share this Truth.

Yogi Haresh

  • Ashtanga Yoga / Pranayama
  • Yogic Physiology and Anatomy

I have been practicing Yoga, Meditation and its Philosophy for last 16 years and still I intend to follow the spiritual path and continue the quest of finding the real Self through the spiritual path with the help of the ancient Indian knowledge of mythology and studies.

I have been following a Yogic Way of Life since my childhood and stayed at renowned spiritual places like Himalaya, Haridwar and Rishikesh where I was deeply involved in practicing Yoga and Meditation and studying true Indian Philosophy. Through my Yoga Teacher Training courses in Rishikesh and my practice under renowned spiritual Gurus like Swami Veda Bharati, Swami Dayananda and Yogi Buddhi Prakashji.

I gained profound knowledge and understanding in theory and practice.

Yoga is the simple yet profound process of consciously directing the outward flow of energy towards the source of existence within us … to experience peace, joy and calmness and finally become capable to know the “Truth”.

In that sense I am keenly sharing my teachings with spiritual seekers and Yoga students to enrich them with the secrets of Yoga.

Yogi Shankar

  • Hatha/Sivananda Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Pranayama

Born and raised in an traditional Brahmin Family in the holy city of Rishikesh, India, I was introduced to Yoga and ancient scriptures in my early childhood by my father, a Sanskrit Scholar.

When grown up I decided to pursue his studies further and travelled to the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger to complete a certificated training course.

After that I stayed at the Yoga Vedanta forest academy at Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh to study Vedanta and surrender myself to perfecting my teaching and yogic discipline under the guidance of my Guru.

Since then I am teaching Hatha/Sivananda Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama as well as Yoga Nidra and Mantra Yoga.

I am very motivated to share my knowledge with all Yoga Enthusiasts. My goal is to support them to become calm and centered and to understand how to connect their mind, body and spirit.
